Overview Differences between Get Smart, Again! and The Nude Bomb The film is not as w ell known as the earli er theatrical re lease, The Nude Bomb, also based on Get Sm art, but was better received by fans of t he origina l program. Unlike The Nude Bomb, which featured o nly the cha racters of Smart, The Chief (with Da na Elcar replacing the deceased Ed ward Platt) , Agent 13 (Dave Ketc hum in the series, portrayed by Joey Forman in The Nude Bomb, who had pla yed the charact er Harry H oo in the se ries) and Larrabee, Get Smart, Again! fe atured all of the surv iving ori ginal cast reprising t heir rol es. T he tone an d feel of Get Smart, Again ! were also clo ser t o that of the original series . Get Smart, Again! was written and produced by Leonard Stern, who was a producer o f the original series. One element of the Nu de Bomb igno red com pletely was the renaming of CONTROL a s PI TS i n the e arli er film; al though as CONTROL i s said to ha ve disbanded in the 1970s, it' ;s not impossible for both CONTROL and PITS to exist within the continuity of the franc hise. Barbara Feldon&# 39;s character, 99, makes a refer ence to T.H.R.U.S.H., t he evil orga nization in The Man Fro m U.N.C.L.E., a s how on which Feldon guest -star red. Theme mu sic Ge t Sm art, Agai n! also reprises the TV prog ram' s original theme m usic and op ening credit seque nce, which were absent fro m The Nude Bomb. In this ca se, however, th e corrid ors w ere cove red in c obwe bs a nd the phone-booth elevator tha t led to CONTROL hea dquart ers w orked in reverse , causing Smart to be thrown to th e top of t he booth. Synopsis Maxwell Sm art, act ing as a protocol of fice r since CONTROL was disbanded in the early 197 0s, is r eactivate d as a count erintelligence agen t by Comma nder Drury (Ke nnet h Mars) of the Un ited States Intell igence Agency. KAOS, long co nsidered defunct , has been revitalized by a corp orate take over . Its first sche me in volves turning a forgo tten American scien tist and using his weather contr ol machine t o extort $250 billion US dollars from the United State s Government. Dru ry, co nvinced that only Smart has the e xpertis e to combat KAOS, gives him carte blanche to reactivat e former CONTRO L agents to assist h im in his task. Along with Drury's bumbling aide, Beamish (Steve Lev itt), Smart r ecruits Larrabee (who, believing that he was under or ders from Richa rd Nixo n to s tay at his post until relieved, has been living in his of fice in the now-abandoned CONTROL headquarters t ending his office plants), Agent 13, Hymi e the Robot (now employed as a crash t est dummy) an d ultimately, his wi fe 99 (Barb ara Feldon) t o find t he security le ak that allowed the scientist to defect, locate the weather mac hine and disarm it. Th ey are opposed by KAOS moles within the U SIA, who are able to predict Max';s every move with the aid of stol en copie s of 99's unp ublishe d memoi rs. The vi sible hea d of the KAOS scheme i s revealed to be Max&# 39;s old nemesis, Siegfried, but he is merely the agent of a higher executi ve whom even he has never met. This higher power is finally rev ealed a s Nicholas Demente (Har old Gould) , 99 ';s publ isher , who intends not only t o extort the money but also to crea te weather t hat will keep people etern ally i ndoors and interfere with television reception, fo rcing millio ns to ente rtain themselves by buying Dement e's b ooks and pub lications. Comedic sty le T he scr ipt is litte red with typical Maxwell S mart verbal gags, and large portions of the pl ot serve only as set ups for Get Smart!-style sight gags (such a s a duel bet ween Max and a KAOS hitman using remote con troll ed file cabinet dra wers). T he film also features the array o f bizarre gadge try and political sati re that were hallmar ks of the o riginal seri es. The c one of silence has been superse ded by "Hove r Cover&qu ot; where a meeting is held on a roofto p with thr ee helic opter s hovering overhead . The failure of H over Cover leads to the d evelopmen t of "The Hall Of Hush " ;,a sound proof room where words print out si lentl y in m id air, a success at first u ntil the wor ds begin to print forward, backwa rd and on top of each other.
