JiaYi, o ne of thes e unattended children, cheri shed every single reunion w ith her pare nts who w ork as migrant labors: she would travel thousands of mi les with her grandfat her to vis it them; lying on her father’s leg and crying silently is her way of resi sting sayi ng goo dbye; Tears flooded her eye s so vi olently that she didn 9;t says an y words whe n her m other had to leave earlie r than planned to start working during t he spring festival. Ho wever, life go es on no ma tter they ar e ready or not. She struggles to survive i n the suffering of s eparation w hile a t the mean time, she mus t le arn to forget this painfulness and preten d to live like a norm al kid w ho enjo ys her time i n sc hool with peer s. She, li ke a mature adult, can make her younger brother cry and then burst int o laughs. Thei r life is filled wi th tears an d laughter as they gro w up happily and tough ly. “Sadnes s” is not su pposed to be the first ima ge of these una ttended children. Even though they have t o withstand the loneliness and despera tion that are not normally experience d by their peers, they still have their share of h appiness and innoce nce.
