To understand a nei ghbourhood often portrayed as a ghetto and ‘Camorra’ str onghold, as well as the c ircumst ances of D avide’s de ath, direct or Agostino Ferr ente seeks out Da vide ’s friends and meets Pietro and Alessandro. In the film’s i ntro duction he is heard asking off-camera, ‘tell me ab out your fr iendship’, which reveals his approach to this consistently collab orative documenta ry-fiction project. Equipping the boys with a mo bile phone and a microphone, he asks them to document the ir eve ryday lives as a ‘selfie’ film, whether t hey are riding a scoot er, at the beach, h anging o ut with fri ends or on the toile t. This turns out to be the perfect format in an a ge where self-dramatisation often beco mes a product.
